Falconry

falconry.jpg

Falconry has a fascinating history, and is just as impressive to observe! Although practiced by few, falconry in the Okanagan is active, and is in fact helping your communities! How? Falconry is a sustainable, green solution to pest bird problems!  Did you know a Canada Goose can eat up to 3 pounds of grass a day? Now this may sound like a fantastic way to keep the grass short on the greens, however one goose can produce more than a pound of feces daily. To help keep our outdoor activities as parasite free as possible, experienced falconers work closely with municipalities.

If you are interested in learning falconry, be prepared for a long road ahead of you! B.C. Falconry is an excellent resource to get involved and get connected to falconers in your area! As awesome as it sounds to have a falcon on your shoulder, do your research. Do you have time to weigh your birds’ food? Falcons require a great deal of time, energy, and expense.
