Fishing

The Okanagan/ Similkameen has a lot to offer those who love to fish. Whether it be fly fishing in a river, trolling down the lake or sport anglers seeking the elusive monster of the depths, you’ll find it all in Region 8! Local Fish and Game Clubs are a great way to get involved with the community and find out from people that know the area where the real good honey holes are!

The Okanagan Basin and tributary streams host 38 species of fish, including the blue-listed, species at risk; like the  Chiselmouth. An estimated 153 lakes in the Similkameen Basin and tributary streams host at least 17 species, including the red-listed, endangered Umatilla dace, and four blue-listed species. A healthy ecosystem results in healthy fish, so check out The State of Fish and Fish Habitat in the Okanagan and Similkameen Basins from Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Okanagan Nation Alliance, and BC Ministry of Water Land and Air Protection.
